Radio Room – Radio Listening Watch
The Radio Room plays a critical role in providing safety at sea for all mariners. MRNSW Radio/Watch Officers monitor emergency (& working) radio channels ready to respond in emergency situations if required.
On a day-to-day basis Watch Officers & Radio Officers log vessels on and off the MRNSW state-wide database, (SEAHAWK) helping to ensure that all vessels in our area are safe and have returned home when they are expected. In addition the Radio Room provides regular weather updates and Maritime Notices, Naval Notifications throughout the day.
The Radio Room is manned from 0600-1800 during summer and 0700-1700 during winter every day of the year. Outside those times, VFH Channel 16 is monitored via a link to the MRNSW State Communications Centre (Sydney). This provides a 24 x 7 coverage of NSW waters.
We request that all Log Ons & Log Offs are conducted on VHF16. Please note that outside opening hours 27MhZ channels are not monitored.
